Have you ever wanted to open up the windows and let the light in, but didn’t want anyone outside to see you? Are you being forced to sacrifice your privacy or loose out on glorious sunlight? Then I can help you.
I’ve had a LOT of traffic on my original post Need more Privacy from your Windows? Cheap Temporary Covering.
However, the windows on my front door are thin, so one panel of Glad Press N’ Seal on each window worked perfectly… but what if you wanted to cover a normal size window? more “Need More Privacy from Your Windows? Cheap Temporary Covering – Part 2”
I love Apple. We have a whole slew of apple products in our house, everyone in our family owns at least one, including our 2 and 4-year-olds.
The Apple TV is easy to navigate so my 2 and 4-year-old use it all the time.
However, they lose that dang remote all the freaking time.
The remote is so small and slim that it is constantly falling in the depths of the recliner or the couch, being left in the kitchen, bathroom, everywhere. more “Never Lose your Apple Remote Ever Again!”
Something had to be done about that old, ugly fireplace. It was an antique wood color, which doesn’t go with anything else in my house. There was no mantle. It had brass accents. And it had absolutely no character, whatsoever. It was an eyesore. more “Old, Ugly Fireplace? Make it Pretty and New for Cheap! Part 1 – Building a Mantle”
Is your Bathroom somewhere you like to be? No? Make it Gorgeous! Part 3 – Replacing Shower Doors
So on to my sliding shower doors….
Sliding Doors, seriously? Ugh. And even worse, when open, the space to walk through is so small you have to turn sideways just to get out. Whoever built this house, obviously, did NOT think that one through.

Is your Bathroom somewhere you like to be? No? Make it Gorgeous! Part 2 – Toilet cove.
Now that my bathroom counter and vanity are gorgeous, I had to something about the rest of the bathroom…
As you can see, it was very bland… and again there was no storage. I have an aunt who comes to visit about once a month, and I need some place to put my accommodations for her (tampons, panty liners, etc).
At first, I was using another one of those Rubbermaid storage boxes like I was using for my “Getting Ready Box”, but it just sat on top of the toilet, not looking bad, just, not good… more “Is your Bathroom somewhere you like to be? No? Make it Gorgeous! Part 2 of 3 – Floating Shelves over the Toilet.”
Is your Bathroom somewhere you like to be? No? Make it Gorgeous! Part 1 – Counters & Under the Sink
The master bathroom in my new house left much to be desired…
It’s small and offers nothing in the way of organization or storage.
Does yours look anything like this?
Stuff all over your counters? (Necessary) clutter under your sink? more “Is your Bathroom somewhere you like to be? No? Make it Gorgeous! Part 1 of 3 – Counters & Under the Sink”
I have a front door that I’m not crazy about but don’t have the money to run out and buy a new one…
My front door has two windows that run parallel, on the top half of the door… they have a little bevel in the glass but not enough to give any sort privacy, what so ever… which is a problem for a person that likes to walk around in their underwear after the kids have gone to bed… like me. more “Need more privacy from your windows? Cheap Temporary covering – Part 1”
At this point you should know that I have an older house…
So when it came down to getting the refrigerator I wanted (this beauty, though through sales & price matching I got for about $1000 less) we knew that we would have to run a water line for the ice maker and water dispenser. more “Easily Run a Water Line for your Refrigerator”
Ok, so my house is older, it was built in the 70’s and sometimes that fact rears its ugly face…
My kitchen cabinets are one of those times.
My cabinets are old… and dingy… and old. more “Do you have an Old Kitchen? Here’s a Quick Fix!”
Finally, all the ducks were in a row (quack, quack), the owners fixed everything that was an issue with the house and it was closing day.
After signing our names a billion times the house was officially ours! We were so ecstatic, we rushed over and sat on the kitchen counter just letting our transaction set in. Ours. Our own. No more landlords!
And our first project started that very day! We changed the locks.
Now changing the locks was not cheap. Especially considering how many we had to buy. more “Closing day! Time to Change the Locks.”
Yes, I’m going to be cliché and leave the above title.
This is my first blog post, and I am excited to share with you the ever-lengthening list of projects I have to Make This House My Home.
It all started when we began looking for a new house. Let me rephrase, it began when we started looking to buy a house… well, let me start before then…
